Plickers-Digital Tool

 What is Plickers?
Plickers is a powerfully simple tool that lets teachers collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for student devices. You can create customized quizzes and assessments based upon your content area and curriculum.

Student Answer Cards:To use Plickers, students are provided with answer cards, which can be easily printed and distributed. (When I use plickers, I found that laminating the cards can really make them last long.)
Smartphone & App: Using the web-based Plickers or the iPhone or Android Plicker app, teachers can scan student responses, and immediately have the ability to assess their understanding and gather data. The app is available for free on both the Apple App Store and the Android App on Google Play. If using the iPad, you must filter “iPhone only” when searching for the Plickers app in the App store.

Steps for Creating an Account:

  1. Go to Plickers.com and sign up using either with your Google account or set up a new account login username and password.
  2. Once you are logged in, on the Plickers homepage, select Add new class. You’ll be prompted to name your class, select the year of study, the subject, and designate a class color. This will help you stay organized throughout the year.
  3. Plickers will automatically assign the card number to your students as you enter their names. You can add up to 63 students per class, leaving more than enough room for a traditional classroom. (From elementary experience, most teachers like to strategically put students in according their pre existing class numbers.)

How to Use Student Answer Cards:
  • Each student is assigned a number that corresponds to a card number that can be printed from the Plickers website.
  • Distribute cards according to corresponding student numbers.
  • Teachers on their computer will want to go to “Live View” and display their quiz/assessment question.
  • From there, students can hold up their personal cards (which resemble QR codes) in order to respond to teacher prompts. The direction that students hold the card determines the answer choice which will be recorded.
  • Once a student holds up their card, the teacher can scan the students card that they hold up.
  • The side of the card that faces up represents their chosen answer. Sides are labeled A,B,C,D.The app will display who still needs to answer the question.

Introducing Plickers Scoresheet
Once all students answer the question, you can display to the class (if you choose) the results of their responses. Students answers will be graphed out for teachers to display. You can also create a Scoresheet, which is very similar to a gradebook. You can use Scoresheet to monitor student progress and save time grading: color-coded student and question averages make it easy to identify questions to review and spot students who need more help.

  1. This looks great! Do you have to scan each students card/response for every question?
